Casting Doubt on the General Theory of Relativity
Max Planck to Wilhelm Wien, 29 June 1913, reproduction

Not being descriptive, the novel mathematics of Einstein's theory of gravitation discomforts many of his collegues. What's even worse is that Einstein wants to give up the idea of an acceleration in an absolute space. Max Planck is also sceptical.

The observation of the next solar eclipse will hopefully decide about Einstein's theory of gravitation, which doesn't suit me at all.
