The Russell-Einstein Manifesto
9 July 1955, London, reproduction
The famous manifesto warns of the consequences of atomic war and calls for nuclear disarmament. It is introduced by the philosopher and mathematician Bertrand Russell at a press conference in London. The declaration is signed by eleven prominent scientists, among them nine Nobel laureates. Russell initiates the manifesto with the support of Albert Einstein, who signs it just a few days before his death.
