Einstein and the League of Nations
Berliner Tageblatt, 16 May 1922, reproduction
Einstein’s work with the League of Nation has its basis in his experiences with nationalist colleagues during World War I. In 1923 Einstein leaves the Committee for Intellectual Cooperation, whose members include Marie Curie and Henri Bergson – out of disappointment about the League of Nations’ weakness. One year later, however, he returns to his work with the organization, because the idea that intellectual exchange can make a contribution to international understanding is so important to him.
