Einstein’s Stance on War
Note on a letter from Frida Perlen, late December 1928, reproduction
In December 1928, Einstein corresponds with Frida Perlen (1870–1933), a staff member of the International Women’s League for Peace and Freedom. In January 1929, this association organizes a congress on the topic “The Modern Methods of War and the Protection of the Civilian Population.” Einstein is a member of the honorary committee, along with Käthe Kollwitz, Romain Rolland and Bertrand Russell. On a letter directed to him he notes, “For me, every killing of a human being is common murder, even when it is committed by the state on a large scale.”
